Please come out this Sunday for a Grounds Clean Up Day. We will start at 9am Sunday morning and work for a couple of hours. It is Spring and there are some landscaping tasks that need to be done at this time such as weeding, fertilizing, planting, and trimming. The temple grounds are looking nice and a morning’s work goes a long way toward keeping them nice. Please let me know if you can come so I can make sure I have enough tasks, supplies, and tools for everyone. If you have your own tools, please bring them. You can work at your own pace and even a half hour of your time would be helpful. If it rains, I will reschedule. I look forward to hearing from you. The Ensemble Nobile, an award-winning Israeli Baroque Quartet, is coming to Temple Shir Shalom on April 8th for an 8pm concert. On a special tour sponsored by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and Israel Cancer Association-USA, this lively and expressive group will present a specially crafted concert program featuring the first polyphonic (for multiple voices) Jewish music played in the Venice synagogue in 1623. The ensemble will also perform special arrangements of Israeli songs, a vocal piece by Vivaldi, and folk music taken from the tradition of Gondola songs (songs without words).
The Ensemble Nobile consists of the beautiful soprano voice of Yeela Avital, the nimble and soulful Israeli fingers of Shlomit Sivan Rosen on Violin, Amit Tiefenbrunn on Viola da Gamba, and Yizhar Karshon on Harpsichord. The quartet will be accompanied by Avi Avital, a virtuoso on the rarely heard mandolin. The concert experience will also feature explanations of the special character of the baroque instruments with historic instruments builder and viola da gamba player Amit Tiefenbrunn.
Tickets can be purchased at Temple Shir Shalom, 3855 NW 8th Ave, 371-6399, and are $18 general admission, $9 student general admission (with ID), and $60 special reserved seating. All proceeds benefit the AICF and ICA, USA. Stay for the champagne reception afterwards and meet the musicians.
